Vanessa is a Certified Forest Therapy guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. As a born and raised New Yorker, Vanessa has always been drawn to nature where she's felt her most alive and truest self. She's always considered nature as a temple and her best healer.  Vanessa's spiritual path began back in college and has continued to evolve over the years by following different teachers, practicing yoga, meditation, mindfulness and engaging in her own healing work.  Vanessa's deep love for nature and healing led her to the beautiful practice of forest bathing.  As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over two and half decades of experience working with children and families, Vanessa is excited to share her passion for nature and the outdoors as a tool for healing and self-discovery.

"Forest bathing" has been translated from the Japanese term Shinrin-yoku which means "bathing in the forest atmosphere". Immerse yourself in the natural world and share with like minded folks to illuminate your spirit. You will be guided through a series of grounding and meditative practices that will help reconnect you with the more-than-human world, your community and yourself. Benefits of forest bathing include stress reduction, improved mood, improved cardiovascular and cognitive function amongst a host of other benefits. In addition to forest bathing, this walk will be part of World Sound Walk Day started by Quiet Parks International, which has been growing their Urban Sound Walk Project, helping people experience their cities through the simple practice of listening. As urban noise increases, the project draws attention to quiet and near-quiet spaces that are still present within our everyday environments and why they matter for people and ecosystems. Join us to be part of this shared global moment focused on listening. *This experience is best suited for adults or teens.

City of Forest Day is an annual day of activities across all five boroughs to raise awareness of the importance of the New York City urban forest, and the essential role New Yorkers play every day in caring for the “lungs” of our city. Mindful Astoria is honored to participate in this day, as it has in years past, by offering Forest Bathing in our cherished local park! (*sign up on Meetup for updates and more details) Shinrin-yoku - a Japanese term translated to mean "forest bathing" or "absorbing the forest atmosphere", is beginning to make it's way to the west. Immerse yourself in nature and share with like minded folks. You will be guided through a series of grounding and meditative practices that will help reconnect you with the more-than-human world, your community and yourself. Guided seated and walking meditations will be incorporated.
